Sep 6, 2023Kansas ATC gathers equipment for Maui student-athletes impacted by wildfires
An athletic trainer from a Kansas High School is doing her part to provide relief to student-athletes who were impacted by the recent wildfires in Maui.
Mark Padfield is the athletic trainer at Tonganoxie High School and has been collecting donated athletic gear and clothing from coaches within the community to send to schools in Maui to help rebuild the athletic programs.
To help offset the shipping costs of the nine already-filled boxes, Padfield has set up a GoFundMe account. As of Wednesday morning, Padfield has raised $3,827 of his $4,500 goal.
A recent story from KCTV-5.com detailed the Tonganoxie High School’s fundraiser to help athletes impacted by the Maui wildfires.
Below is an excerpt from the KCTV-5.com story.
“The shipping costs, when quoted on the first box, caused the utterance of expletives from not only the guy on the customer side of the counter, but also the helpful woman on the official side of the Formica fortification,” Padfield wrote.
Padfield launched the GoFundMe account to raise money to cover those high shipping costs. Donations have already raised more than $3,800.
So far he’s shipped the first nine boxes. The shipment cost more than $700 dollars, according to an invoice he added to the online fundraiser.
