ATC Runs for Office

UPDATE: Nicole Klarides-Ditria defeated three-term incumbent Theresa Conroy to win a seat in Connecticut’s House of Representatives, as reported by CTPost.com. Klarides-Ditria has been an athletic trainer in the state for over 15 years.

She ran on a platform of controlling spending at the state level and will join her sister in the legislature, who serves as House Minority Leader. She offers her thoughts in this podcast.

The below blog was written on October 31:

By day, Nicole Klarides-Ditria is an athletic trainer at Lauralton Hall High School in Milford, Conn., and the football athletic trainer at Seymour (Conn.) High School. Along with those duties, Klarides-Ditria serves as the deputy first selectman on Seymour’s Board of Selectman.

According to an article from Citizen’s News, Klarides-Ditria is hoping to add another title. After learning that the district’s current representative voted to approve the state’s budget, Klarides-Ditria decided to run.

“We need to budget at the state level like people do in their house,” Klarides-Ditria told Citizen’s News. “If you make less money, you spend less money. That is one of the common sense principles of government. I will make our state operate more efficiently.”

In order to help the budgetary issues, Klarides-Ditria wants to bring businesses back to the state. If elected, she also plans to work with the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services to enable more rehabilitation programs for opioid use.
