Paseo del Rio

With this year’s convention in the heart of San Antonio’s metro area, attendees are steps away (and 10 feet above) one of Alamo City’s most popular tourist attractions: el Paseo del Rio, or the San Antonio River Walk.

The River Walk – its main entrance is located near the corner of East Commerce St. and Market St. – is an intricate pedestrian grid along the banks of the San Antonio River that measures 21 blocks in length and is home to nearly three dozen restaurants, cafes, shops, galleries, museums, and other entertainment venues. Attendees will find walkways linked to the featured tourist hot spots, starting west-to-east from The Alamo to the Rivercenter Mall and north-to-south from the Arneson River Theatre and La Villita to Hemisfair Park and the 750-foot Tower Life Building.

Start charting your path by visiting The San Antonio River Walk’s official Web site, where you can download maps and coupons and learn how to make evening reservations for touring the waterway on a dinner cruise.

One thing to remember: Bring plenty of water and dress lightly before hitting the pavement. San Antonio’s average daytime temperatures in June are above 90!
