ENU Chock Full of Important Vitamins and Minerals

Did you know that if a food nutrition label has 20% or more of a particular ingredient — whether it’s a vitamin, mineral, protein, saturated fat, salt or cholesterol — it’s considered a high amount? That’s great news for ENU drinkers because ENU contains 25% or more of the daily values recommended for several vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, including vitamins A, B6, B12, C and E and calcium, thiamin, folic acid and much more. Plus, ENU offers a whopping 60% of vitamin D’s daily recommendation. (The U.S. Food and Drug Administration sets “daily value” recommendations based on a diet of 2,000 calories per day.)

Let’s examine the health benefits of four of the important vitamins ENU provides:

Vitamin A — 25% of the daily value is included in ENU nutrition shakes. Vitamin A is essential for normal vision and a healthy immune system and is important for other areas of our bodies as well.

Vitamin C — 25% of the daily value is in ENU. When we think of vitamin C, we automatically think of orange juice, but the vitamin can be found in lots of fruits and vegetables. Vitamin C is an important antioxidant — a substance that slows down or prevents cell damage. Vitamin C helps develop collagen in your bones, cartilage, muscle and blood vessels. It also helps the body absorb iron. Vitamin C use may help athletes after severe physical exercise, according to the Finnish review.

Vitamin D — 60% of the daily value is in ENU. Vitamin D is necessary for your body to absorb calcium, helping prevent fractures in people at risk of osteoporosis and bone loss in people with kidney problems. Vitamin D deficiency is associated with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and infections. Vitamin D has also been shown to decrease inflammation.

Vitamin E — 25% of the daily value is in ENU. Vitamin E is an antioxidant, therefore slowing down cell damage. It can also help prevent inflammation and boost your immune system. It may also help reduce muscle cramps after exercise.

25g of Protein Per Serving of ENU:

Grass-fed Whey Protein Isolate – The primary protein source in ENU, whey protein isolate is the most bioavailable protein. Thanks to its ability to support the maintenance and rebuilding of muscle mass, whey protein isolate is sought out by endurance athletes, body builders and sports nutritionists.

Non-GMO Soy Protein Concentrate – A secondary protein source in ENU, soy protein is a complete protein and the most digestible plant protein source. Soy protein is also rich in valine, an essential amino acid required for healthy cell and organ function.

What is whey protein?

Whey is a natural protein found in the watery portion of milk. Milk contains two types of protein: casein, which makes up 80% of milk, and whey, which makes up 20%. Have you ever opened a yogurt container, and seen liquid floating on top? This is whey (Tip: don’t toss the liquid, stir it in to get more protein!). During cheese production, whey is separated from the casein. Cheese makers used to discard the whey, until they realized the value of it. Now days, whey that has been separated during cheese production undergoes a series of processing steps to become what we now know as whey protein powder. This powder is then added to protein shakes, bars, and other supplements.

Benefits of Whey Protein

Whey protein is digested rapidly, quickly absorbed and utilized compared to other types of protein. It helps to produce a larger spike in insulin, a storage hormone that can stimulate muscle growth. Whey supplies all of the essential amino acids, and is particularly high in the branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) Leucine, Valine and Isoleucine. BCAAs are taken up directly by the muscle, without having to go through the liver to be metabolized. Leucin has been shown to be one of most anabolic (growth promoting) amino acids. Whey’s quick digestibility and high BCAA content has made it popular among athletes and those looking to increase their strength and muscle mass.
