For years, East Brunswick High School Athletic Trainer Phil Hossler has suggested his athletes drink chocolate milk as a recovery drink. Those efforts caught the attention of the Milk Processor Education Program, creators of the National Milk Mustache “got milk?” Campaign, who selected Hossler, also a contributor to T&C, as their national grand prize winner. An ad featuring Hossler has appeared in seven national trade magazines.

“We recently launched a refuel ‘got chocolate milk’ campaign, and with it, we’re talking to athletes, trainers and coaches, encouraging them to use chocolate milk as a post-workout recovery beverage,” Kelly Magnus, Account Executive for the Milk Processor Education Program told myCentralJersey.com. “Phil took it upon himself to implement a training program that focuses on recovery. He encouraged all of his athletes to refuel with chocolate milk and it was just a really neat story.”

Though grateful for the honor, Hossler is quick to deflect the attention he’s received.

“I didn’t invent chocolate milk,” he told myCentralJersey.com. “The milk people are working very hard to draw attention to it because it’s actually good for you.”

As a contributor to T&C, Hossler recently penned an article about the advancing standard of care for treating an athlete with a concussion. His story, “Upgrading Protocols”, appeared in our June 2011 issue.
