Strength Training Facilities of Excellence: Northern Highlands Reg. High School
Wesley Sykes, managing editor

Located in Allendale, NJ, roughly 30 minutes outside New York City, Northern Highlands Regional High School has a stand-out training facility for its students and student-athletes. The two-story, 7,600-square-foot facility overlooks the Highlanders stadium and was part of an $8.8 million athletic upgrade that included new turf fields on a 5.5-acre on-campus plot of land and new LED light towers.

The weight room, with equipment from Fitness Lifestyles, includes nine half power racks (Tuff Stuff), two full dumbbell sets (5-100 lbs.), a multi-station cable crossover machine, various TRUE selectorized machines, embroidered adjustable benches, three treadmills, three ellipticals, customized rubber flooring, customized colors and logos for power racks, benches, plates and dumbbells, and six smart TVs for display.

“Initial feedback from students is that they’re excited about the look of the new facility and what it has to offer,” Northern Highlands assistant principal Michael Koth said.

Located on the second floor, the weight room will support school programs like physical education and athletics and includes an office and storage space. The first floor features public restrooms, locker rooms, a trainer’s room, a community conference room and storage space.
