Visiting Las Vegas

With attractions ranging from renowned shows and casinos to air-conditioned amusement parks, Las Vegas has something for everyone. This is your chance to check out the world-famous Bellagio Fountains and catch a show. If you’re interested in the nightlife and gaming scenes, the Vegas Strip isn’t to be missed. And don’t forget to take advantage of the world-class restaurants.

The official Las Vegas tourism Web site has plenty of ideas to suit your interests. Find information about food and restaurants, music and nightlife, museums, shopping, family-friendly activities, and tours of the city. Here are some suggested highlights:

  • Take in the view of the city–from far above–at the Stratosphere Tower, the highest freestanding observation tower in the United States. Along with a panoramic view, the tower offers attractions for thrill-seekers, including one of the tallest controlled free-falls in the world. You can learn more here.
  • View National Geographic’s “50 Greatest Photographs,” a special exhibit at the Imagine Exhibitions Gallery. Along with featuring some of the most-memorable photographs published in National Geographic, this exhibit delves into some of their stories through near frames–the shots taken immediately before and after the iconic image–and narratives from documentary videos. More information about the museum and exhibit can be found here.
  • The Las Vegas 51s baseball team will be hosting the Salt Lake Bees June 24 and 25 if you’re looking to catch a game after the conference. You can check out the team’s Web site here.
  • If you’d like a change of scenery, drive out to the Hoover Dam. Built during the Great Depression, this dam created Lake Mead–one of North America’s largest reservoirs. Find out more here.
