Training & Conditioning is proud to announce the release of our newest publication, “The Nutrition Edge.” In this book, we present a compilation of the very best of our articles on sports nutrition published in the magazine. From pregame meals to losing weight to recovery nutrition, each chapter details information that is relevant and specific to today’s competitive athlete.

Twenty years ago, we began publishing Training & Conditioning, a magazine specifically targeted to athletic trainers and strength and conditioning coaches. Its goal was and continues to be to provide readers with cutting edge advice on working with competitive athletes.

Part of that advice includes in-depth articles on nutrition. Since the mid-1990s, our readers have enjoyed finding new information on nutrition in every issue. And our nutrition-based content has become some of the best articles we publish.

We have been lucky to find a stable of sports dietitians that can author these types of articles. And we thank them for partnering with us on this book. They include:

Jackie Maurer Abbot, PhD, RD, CSSD, a nutrition counselor for multi-event athletes who is affiliated with USA Track & Field and Coordinator of Nutrition for the Combined Events Development Project. She is also President of JMA Nutrition, a sports nutrition consulting company.

Randy Bird, MS, RD, CSSD, CSCS, Sports Nutritionist for Kansas Athletics, Inc.

Leslie Bonci, RD, MPH, CSSD, LDN, Director of Sports Medicine Nutrition with the Center for Sports Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Amy Bragg, RD, LD, CSSD, Director of Performance Nutrition with the University of Alabama athletics department.

Lisa Dorfman, MS, RD, CSSD, LMHC, Director of Sports Nutrition and Performance at the University of Miami, and a member of the inaugural United States Olympic Committee Sport Dietitian Network.

Josh Hingst, MS, RD, SCCC, Director of Sports Nutrition at the University of Nebraska.

Pamela Hinton, PhD, Associate Professor of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology at the University of Missouri.

Jennifer Ketterly, MS, RD, CSSD, Director of Sports Nutrition at the University of North Carolina.

James Leone, PhD, ATC, CSCSD, CHES, Assistant Professor of Health in the Department of Movement Arts, Health Promotion, and
Leisure Studies at Bridgewater State College.

Michelle Rockwell, MS, RD, CSSD, Sports Nutrition consultant to North Carolina State University Athletics and co-founder of RK Team Nutrition.

Susan Kundrat, MS, RD, CSSD, LDN, Sports Dietitian for the University of Illinois Athletics, President of Nutrition on the Move, Inc., and co-founder of RK Team Nutrition, served as editor of this book. She carefully edited each chapter, updating information as needed and adding text to make it comprehensive.
