NASCAR: Kasey Kahne’s Workout

NASCAR drivers aren’t always considered top athletes. However, Kasey Kahne, driver of the No. 5 Chevrolet in the Sprint Cup Series, says being in shape definitely has a positive effect on his performance.

“Late in a race, your adrenaline is up,” Kahne told Men’s Journal. “If you’re racing on physical and mental strength, I think you’re in a better position than the guy racing on straight up adrenaline.”

Kahne has been working with strength and conditioning coach Ryan Von Rueden since 2009 and currently rotates through a series of high-intensity bodyweight routines, longer cardio sessions, and short interval training. With his busy schedule, Kahne has limited time to work out, so he gets the most out of his exercise time with workouts like this one, which typically takes about 25 minutes.

• Warm-up with a jog for three minutes

• Sprint for 1/3 mile

• 20 lunges on each leg

• 30 squats

• 30 push ups

• 50 toe touches

• 50 leg lifts

• Rest one minute

• Repeat two more times
