Jan 29, 2015Keynote Speaker Archie Manning Delivers
It was a packed house at this year’s keynote address, given by Archie Manning. Manning focused on the topic of leadership and how being a leader can help athletic trainers advance the profession even further. …
Manning, who spent 13 years as an NFL quarterback after manning the helm for Ole Miss, and whose sons Peyton and Eli are both NFL quarterbacks, said there are three keys to being a leader. They are:
-To think like a leader
-To set goals like a leader
-To act like a leader
“Today’s challenges are tomorrow’s triumphs,” he said. “Only those who have been in the valley can appreciate the view from the mountaintop.”
Manning also talked about his interactions with athletic trainers during his playing days. He mentioned Dean Kleinschmidt, who was the head athletic trainer for the Saints for almost 30 years, and the youngest-ever head athletic trainer in the NFL when he started at 24 years of age.
“Coaches and teammates come and go, but your two best friends will be your athletic trainer and your equipment manager,” Manning said.
