According to an online petition, T.J. Morgan, Head Athletic Trainer at Archbishop Spaulding (Md.) High School, has been dismissed for alleged misconduct. Reportedly, Morgan’s offense was inviting student-athletes out for lunch to celebrate their accomplishments.
As reported by The Capital Gazette, school officials confirmed that T.J. Morgan, Head Athletic Trainer at Archbishop for 15 years, is no longer employed by the school, but they declined to comment further. Benjamin Garden, an alumnus of Archbishop Spaulding, who started the change.org petition to reinstate Morgan wrote that Morgan invited some students to lunch in person and sent a group text to a number of others who would not be in school that day. The petition currently has over 1,200 supporters.
“He was everybody’s coach and fan, no matter what sport you played,” wrote Garden.
The Capital Gazette reports that Morgan also seemed to be appreciated by coaches.
“The reason we were ready to play today was because of our trainer, T.J. Morgan,” Girls’ Lacrosse Coach Don Restly said after a recent win.
