Got Sponsorship?

The REFUEL | “got chocolate milk?” campaign has announced 50 new openings on Team REFUEL. Each comes with sponsorship money, free race gear, and the chance to star in a “got chocolate milk?” ad. To join, athletes are encouraged to showcase their after workout routines and explain the role that chocolate milk plays in helping them refuel, then drum up votes to help land them a spot on the team.
The REFUEL campaign is dedicated to reaching active adults who are serious about their sports to educate them about the importance of recovering effectively, and supporting them throughout their training through the Team REFUEL program. Athletes who refuel with lowfat chocolate milk can get sponsored by by creating and submitting a video showcasing their “After” at GotChocolateMilk.com or at participating Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series or Ironman and Ironman 70.3® races.

Online votes will decide which five athletes each month will join the team of 120 existing members and receive a $500 sponsorship, race gear, plus the chance to star in their own “my After” ad or race in a Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon or 1/2 Marathon in Europe. For each vote cast, $1 will go to the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), which provides opportunities and support to people with physical disabilities so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics.

Not only will athletes earn the bragging rights as a sponsored athlete of Team REFUEL, but they’ll also receive exclusive perks including:

  • Team REFUEL Gear: A cycling, triathlon, or running gear package worth at least $300, which will be perfect for training and race day.
  • Sponsorship: $500 to use for race entry fees, gear, or equipment.
  • Fundraising Kit: As the Official Refuel Beverage of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), the REFUEL campaign will support challenged athletes through fundraising efforts tied to Team REFUEL. Specifically, Team REFUEL athletes will have an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for CAF, with the top fundraiser earning the chance to team up with a celebrity and CAF athlete to compete in a leg of the San Diego Triathlon Challenge in October 2012.
  • Motivation: The REFUEL | “got chocolate milk?” Campaign will keep Team REFUEL athletes motivated year-round through:

o Monthly e-blasts from Team REFUEL celebrity captains and race partners.
o Key nutrition and training tips from top sports dietitians and coaches.
o Race day reviews and more on the “my After” blog – written by Team REFUEL team captains and fellow athletes!
o Exclusive perks such as free race entries and discounts on gear.

The Science Behind Chocolate Milk
A growing body of published research supports chocolate milk’s recovery benefits after strenuous exercise. The nutrient profile of chocolate milk is what makes it so effective as a post-exercise recovery beverage. It is a natural source of high-quality protein to build lean muscle; it has the right mix of protein and carbs, scientifically shown to refuel and rebuild exhausted muscles; it has fluids and a natural source of electrolytes to rehydrate and help replenish critical nutrients lost in sweat.

Lowfat chocolate milk also has 9 essential nutrients that an athlete needs, including some not typically found in recovery drinks. Some research even suggests milk may help athletes restore and maintain hydration better than water or certain sports drinks.

Pro triathlete, Mirinda Carfrae, talks about her involvement in the 2012 “got chocolate milk?” campaign at IRONMAN Coeur d’Alene.
