Remembering Coach Dave Van Halanger

Coach Van Halanger was an original Board member of the CSCCa. He was the first Strength coach for WVU athletics, named Strength Coach of the Year in 1993, and was one of three strength coaches featured in the July 1998 issue of Sports Illustrated. Dave was also inducted into the USA Strength and Conditioning Coach Hall of Fame in 2003. He was very involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at WVU, FSU, and UGA. After leaving the University of Georgia in 2015, he later oversaw an FCA program in Dallas, TX.

He had tremendous success over his 23-year career as a strength and conditioning coach, impacting thousands of athletes during his coaching career. Dave’s success as a coach stems from his ability to instill in his players a passion for greatness; the impact he has made on the Strength and Conditioning profession will be with us for a lifetime. We truly celebrate his life and what he has meant to so many who were fortunate enough to know him.
