New Priorities

June 5, 2017

After six seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, strength and conditioning coach Tim DiFrancesco decided it was time for a change. Rather than staying on the road with the team, DiFrancesco has decided to move back to New England to be with his family. He wrote an open letter to thank the program and fans for their support over the years.

“While 6 seasons have brought many changes within this role, the biggest change that I didn’t anticipate was how much I was going to fall in love with my newborn daughter Averie. Suddenly, those memorable road trips with the team got a little longer and being across the country from family felt a little further,” he wrote in the letter, which is posted on Lakers Nation.

In 2013, DiFrancesco wrote an article on basketball training for Training & Conditioning. In it, he talks about the importance of preparing for the season by correcting asymmetries and deficiencies.

“Your training program should and will change, even on a daily basis,” DiFrancesco wrote in his T&C article. “It’s important to take into account the players’ response to the workouts. If you are debating on intensity, load, or length of a workout, I suggest erring on the side of caution. Remember, it’s a long season before the test of the playoffs, and too much too early can result in a failing grade.”
