Prepare to Win

No two athletes are alike—so their exercise, nutrition, and health regimens shouldn’t be either. With CoachMePlus’ Athlete Performance System, coaches and athletic trainers are able to customize their software app to track specific data for each individual athlete and clients, helping them to make informed choices and prepare them for peak performance.

“We work directly with teams or high performance facilities to find out what they need,” says CoachMePlus Sports Performance Specialist and Founding Coach Doug McKenney. “We want to help each organization effectively collect the right data, put it in a place where they can easily understand and analyze it, and improve their program.”

With CoachMePlus, each athlete’s individual training effort and performance is tracked, analyzed, reported, and managed all in one place. By tracking and profiling data over time, the visuals on this platform can be used to educate athletes on the actions behind their improvements, as well as to help both coaches and athletes recognize risk factors and take action to reduce the chances of injury.

Through an application that has been built with the desires of strength professionals in mind, the athletes’ data is used to create customized workout routines, helping coaches move their athletes in a direction that enhances their abilities on a day-to-day basis. With a built-in messaging platform to allow communication between coaches, athletic trainers, and other sports medicine staff, CoachMePlus provides the most complete tool to safely prepare any organization for competition.

“Everybody should be able to benefit from an athlete performance system,” says McKenney. “One of CoachMePlus’ strong suits is that we integrate many tools beyond wearables. We aren’t built just for large budget organizations. We have built packages for smaller teams, schools and gyms that can fill a need for you when it comes to improving your athlete’s performance and reducing their chance for injury.”

Transform Data Into Action

With so many different wearable devices available, it can be a burden to pull all of your athletes’ data into one spot and pinpoint patterns, trends, and correlations. Kinduct’s Athlete Management System eliminates this hassle, providing sport organizations with the right information and tools to drive improvement and produce measurable results.

“Kinduct is a data aggregation analytic and recommendation engine focused on health and wellness, with a keen interest in improving outcome for athletes,” says CEO and Founder Travis McDonough. “Our platform allows coaching staff to make informed decisions from clinically objective data, while spending more time with their athletes and less time looking at spreadsheets.”

Using a dynamic reporting engine, Kinduct’s athlete management system ingests and houses collected data from each of your athletes’ wearable devices. This information is then packaged and presented in a way that enables a coaching staff to quickly and reliably identify areas of strength, opportunities for improvement, and potential risks for injury. To help utilize provided data, Kinduct also supplies athlete-specific programming chosen from a library of high performance exercises and nutrition plans.

Further improving athlete performance, Kinduct’s highly secure, cloud-based platform will continually monitor and track each data set. Any time an athlete goes above or below a certain threshold, a notification will be sent to the coaching staff so a change can be made, keeping the athlete on course and on top of their game. A deep communication infrastructure then allows communication between respective individuals, enhancing collaboration within any organization.

“Data elicitation devices are going to continue to proliferate,” says McDonough. “Organizations will need to have a software backbone that can ingest data sets and make sense of them to make the right decisions for their athletes, and that’s what the Kinduct Athlete Management System does.”

Collect. Analyze. Compare.

AMTI’s AccuPower force plates and AccuPower Solution’s software are great mechanisms for examining the characteristics of athlete’s movements by providing coaches a streamlined and efficient process for reliable sport specific data collection, which presents a robust, integrated analysis regarding athletic performance.

“Our software captures data from the AMTI AccuPower force plate,” says Steve Swanson of AccuPower Solutions. “Then the software supplies the analyses that are specific to sports and relate to weightlifting, jumping, landing, and cutting maneuvers.”

While the AMTI AccuPower force plate offers reliability, a large footprint for athletic movements, and hall effect sensors that don’t break if weights are dropped on them, the integration with the AccuPower Solutions software allows for calculations of force, impulse, CoM velocity, power, rate of power development, rate of force development, and commonly used measures such as reactive strength index (RSI). Measures are extracted for key phases of movement, such as the eccentric and concentric phase of a jump or landing. Comparing data from two synchronized force platforms allows detection of asymmetries in all measures between limbs, and training programs can be adjusted accordingly. A feature-rich graphics display offers immediate presentation and inspection of test results. Coaches can then streamline their workflow by customizing these reports to only pull data that is relevant for their program.

Additionally, coaches can capture baseline data, track specific data over time, and view test history to determine how athletes have improved or declined. An instant replay function can also be used to record the test, play it back in slow motion, and identify exactly where the data relates to each movement.

AMTI and AccuPower Solutions are technology leaders in their respective industries, both committed to meeting the needs of their customers.

Professional Performance Testing

Obtaining objective data on athlete performance can be difficult without the right test equipment. With Swift Performance’s wireless timing gates and jump measurement systems, performance data is captured right on an iPad, allowing coaches to provide immediate feedback and technical detail to adjust the athlete’s next test performance.

“The Swift Performance systems allow sports organizations to accurately and efficiently record performance data such as speed, velocity, power, fatigue and differences between right and left movement patterns,” says Vice President of Sales & Marketing Charlie Wright. “This consistent collection allows monitoring of daily and seasonal physical performance in addition to monitoring player output while returning from injury.”

Both Swift systems provide straightforward user interfaces, as all test data capture functions are laid out in easy-to-read-and-manipulate designs. The timing gates capture basic drills like sprint tests, the NBA Lane Agility, and 3 Cone L Drill, but the key feature is the ability to customize drills to measure any sport specific movement pattern needed. Swift’s unique timing gate functions include wide, durable tripods, the ability to measure four separate tests simultaneously, and dual beam near infra-red photoelectric sensors providing the highest level of accuracy in the industry.

The EZEJUMP Vertical mat system provides immediate capture of data and timing re-set compared to mechanical jump measurement tools that must be re-positioned prior to each jump. Coaches can utilize basic jump tests measuring height, flight time, contact time vs. reactive strength index and power. Some advanced testing measurements are also available, including fatigue, independent left/right leg measurements and leg stiffness.

“With Swift Performance’s timing gates and jump measurement systems, athletes are provided both visual and auditory stimuli when executing linear, lateral, change-of-direction and reactive movement drills, thus increasing their sensory and proprioceptive awareness,” says Wright. “Additionally, the immediate feedback increases competition amongst teammates and players in the same position groups to perform at their best.”

Optimal Level Performance

Every athlete has a different response to training. With the Firstbeat Team Heart Rate and Recovery Monitoring System, coaches can monitor and analyze each athlete’s unique response to training to better individualize training plans and better prepare athletes to perform at their best on game day.

“Consistent training load and consistent recovery has shown to be a good way to maintain readiness and to prevent injury,” says Firstbeat Distributor John Lally. “Firstbeat’s internal training load monitoring and Quick Recovery monitoring allows a coaching staff to track rolling training loads—acute to chronic work ratios—as well as recovery status so that this optimal balance can possibly be achieved.”

Firstbeat provides coaches with real-time training load data including aerobic and anaerobic Training Effect (on a 1 to 5 scale in increments of 1/10 where each level has physiological meaning) and TRIMP (Training Impulse), which models the blood lactate accumulation curve. Firstbeat also provides a 3-minute Quick Recovery measurement that analyzes the HRV (heart rate variability) for each athlete and scales the HRV values for easy-to-interpret readiness scores (0% - 100%). The system’s Team Receiver can collect heart rate data on as many as 100 athletes up to 200 meters away.

Firstbeat’s Bodyguard 2 device is used to collect overnight sleep data and analyze levels of stress and recovery by providing measurable and accurate feedback describing the athlete’s responses to training load stress as well as other stressors in life. With Firstbeat’s group reporting coaches can view the average training loads and recovery scores for the team as well as each individual’s data. This feedback can lead to essential discussions among the staff where key inferences can be made. From the group and individual reports, strength and conditioning coaches and position coaches can set appropriate training intensity targets for each day and plan recovery periods intelligently. Athletes can also be educated on their heart rate and recovery information, increasing accountability for daily lifestyle management while enhancing focus and readiness.

“We incorporate client-requested features and tools, creating a product that is reliable, meaningful, and easy to apply,” says Lally. “We are agile in our approach to optimizing our products and services, and update our software regularly to handle the needs of coaches and athletes worldwide.”

Integrating Dual Force Platform Technology

NMP ForceDecks provides hardware and software solutions for integrating dual force platform technology. ForceDecks has taken technology that has historically been almost exclusively used within research settings and made it accessible to S&C professionals, ATC’s, and physiotherapists to use in their day-today operations in sports settings.

The hardware solution is the FD4000 dual force platform system, which assesses vertical ground reaction force (vGRF) in a range of jump variations and other dynamic and isometric upper and lower body tasks. The software can also be used with other force platforms such as AMTI, Bertec, Kistler, and Pasco. ForceDecks software allows practitioners to perform tests quickly and to analyze and visualize data with a single click and immediately view trends. Its simplicity and speed has been described as “game changing.” Force platform technology is not new, but ForceDecks has delivered a solution tailored to overcome the barriers previously limiting use of this technology in highperformance sport.

The assessment of vGRF allows practitioners to take their testing a crucial step further. While jump height gives us an athlete’s output, force platform technology provides intelligence on how they performed it. ForceDecks enables practitioners to quantify neuromuscular performance variables such as the rate of force development and eccentric duration that contribute to output and in doing so help to identify limiting factors across the movement and feedback on how a training intervention has or has not affected these characteristics. Additionally, we can assess interlimb force distribution asymmetry across key phases– concentric, eccentric and landing. This information is valuable in screening for injury risk and in rehabilitation/return to play scenarios. The landing phase, has major implications for sports where landings are a predominant injury mechanism and also as a marker of “load acceptance” during rehabilitation following ligament injuries across all sports.
