The Virginia Commonwealth University men's basketball team prides itself on being one of the best conditioned teams in NCAA Division I. Getting in shape to play the team's frenetic, fast-paced style--which Head Coach Shaka Smart calls "havoc--begins in the off-season. This year, VCU participated in a Navy SEAL training program designed to promote team bonding and teach players to push through physical and mental adversity. Now, athletes at Florida Gulf Coast University are privy to the same treatment as the pros. In what is believed to be a first on college campus, FGCU is offering PRP injections to its athletes, saving them the hassle of finding a PRP practitioner, and saving the school money on the treatment.

Much of their work continues behind the scenes as they aspire to grow their department and advance the profession. Few athletic trainers have done this as tirelessly as April Hoy, MS, ATC, CSCS, Head Athletic Trainer at Azusa Pacific University, which is in the midst of its first full year of NCAA Division II membership after a three-year transition from the NAIA.
